No services are scheduled at this time, as Pete lovingly donated his body to Texas Tech Medical Science Center for the advancement of health care. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.Pete was born in Childress, TX to James Elbert and Grace Ellen Shackleford on August 5, 1921. He graduated from Childress HS and enlisted in the United States Navy where he served from 1941 until 1944. He then met the love of his life, Iris Galloway and they were married in Childress on October 24, 1944. After being honorably discharged from the Navy he went on to further his education and graduated with BA in Business from West Texas State University. After graduation he reenlisted with the Navy and again served his country from 1950 until 1952. After his military service he began a career with Phillips Petroleum for the next fourteen years. He left Phillips to work for Amarillo Hardware as buyer and superintendent. He retired from Amarillo Hardware after eighteen years. Throughout his life he enjoyed playing golfing and later was a devoted volunteer at the Veteran’s hospital, spending many hours assisting fellow veterans and their families. Pete was a member of Trinity Methodist Church.Pete was preceded in death by his parents, his wife in 2000; a sister Grace; and three brothers; Arthur, Charley and Luther.He is lovingly survived by a nephew, David Shackelford and wife Marti of Amarillo; Three nieces, Brenda Martin of Pampa, Donna Miller of Monahans and June Henry of Little Rock, AR; a brother-in-law, Gilbert Galloway and his family.Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association C/O Star Chapter, 415 West Eighth Ave. #300 Amarillo, TX 79101 or the Thomas E.
