James “Jim” Howard Barnett, USAF MSGT (RET), 89, of Amarillo passed peacefully on September 1, 2022.
A prayer vigil and rosary will be said on Friday, September 2, 2022 at 6pm in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 4122 S. Bonham in Amarillo. Memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at 2pm in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father Hector Madrigal presiding.
Jim was born in Crowville, Louisiana on September 22, 1932 to Howard T. and Vera (Dunham) Barnett. He was a graduate of Ouchita Parish High School and on November 18, 1955 in El Paso, Texas while enlisted in the service, he would marry his beloved Noreen Culhane. After settling in Amarillo, Texas, both Jim and Noreen became members of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
Jim entered in the United States Air Force on October 12, 1951. He spent the next 20 years building an extraordinary career and promoting to the rank of Master Sergeant before finally retiring on November 1, 1971. Following his retirement from the US Military, Jim began working for General Electric in Albuquerque, New Mexico before finally retiring for good.
Jim was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish and hunt as often as he could.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. Those left to cherish his memoires are his beloved wife Noreen Barnett, daughter Maria F. Turner and husband James D.; sister Tricia Monfrey and husband Mark, brother Bobby Barnett and wife Grace, grandchildren David, Kimberly, and Stuart; and great grandchildren Bryce, Zoe, Mira, and Aubrey as well as many other family and dear friends.
