James Mabry Dyess Jr (Jimbo) of Spring, Texas, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2023.
Funeral Mass will be held at St Hyacinth Church in Amarillo, TX, on Monday, October 16th at 1:00 p.m. A reception will follow. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Amarillo.
Jimbo was born September 20, 1950, in McAllen, Texas, to James Mabry Dyess and Rosemary Finger Dyess. Jimbo grew up in Hondo, Texas, attended Hondo High School, and graduated from Amarillo High School. He received a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Science from West Texas State University. He worked at Iowa Beef Processors, BSA Hospital in the IT department, and at Judith Cooper Industries Law Firm as a computer programmer.
Jimbo enjoyed taking road trips, camping and fishing, reading, art, visiting museums, and listening to music. He was a fabulous cook, and the family always looked forward to the dishes he brought to family get-togethers. He enjoyed watching sports, especially the Dallas Cowboys and most especially the Houston Astros.
We will dearly miss his intelligence, sense of humor, and love of family.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Madelyn Dyess.
He is survived by his sisters Diane Dyess, of Amarillo, Emmy Douglass(Ken), of Spring; his brothers Allan Dyess, Johnny Dyess, and Scott Dyess of Amarillo, Nicky Dyess(Justine) of Howe, Texas; nieces Carrie Douglass and Bonnie Dyess, nephews Justin Douglass(Elizabeth), Decker Dyess(Kristina), Tyler Dyess, Jeremy Dyess, Zachary Dyess.
