Jane Moore

Jane Garland Baird Moore, age 73, died August 18, 2012.

Memorial services will be held 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 28, 2012, in Brentwood Chapel at Schooler Funeral Home.  Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia.

Jane was born January 28, 1939 in Amarillo to Loran Albert and Garland Hedgecoke Baird.  She married Montie Arlen Moore in August of 1955 and they had one daughter, Nona Kerry Llewellyn.

Jane graduated from Amarillo High School in 1955.  She earned an Associate of Arts degree from Amarillo College in 1962, where she was admitted to Phi Theta Kappa.  She attended the University of Arizona and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from West Texas State University in 1966, majoring in English.  She also earned a Master of Arts degree from West Texas State University in 1973, where she concentrated in English and history and was admitted to Alpha Chi, being in the top 10% of her class.

Jane taught English and Honors English at Tascosa High School from 1966 through 1979, and one of her greatest joys was maintaining her acquaintance with many of her outstanding students.  She felt her students taught her at least as much as she taught them.

After leaving Tascosa High School, she spent time traveling.  Then “Grammar” spent about 11 years raising her two grandchildren.

The high points in her life included dating a pretender to the throne of Germany and she was kissed 11 times by Elvis Presley.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include a daughter, Nona Kerry Llewellyn; grandchildren Shad Smith and Brittany Smith; brother, Edward Morris and wife, Tavia; sister, Mary Daily and husband, Robert; niece Celee Spidel and husband, Kurtis; nephews, David Daily and Patrick Chris Daily and wife, Kim; dearest friend of 40 plus years, Pat Drake; many great nieces and nephews; and her beloved Chow, Polly.
