Janet Barrie Blake, born March 27, 1922 in Columbus, Ohio to Oscar and Susan Avery. Jan passed away peacefully on February 11, 2016 at Ware Living Center in Amarillo from complications from vascular disease.
Graveside Services will be held at the Llano Pantheon Mausoleum Chapel. The Rev. Kevin Deckard of Polk Street United Methodist Church will officiate. Entombment will be in the Llano Garden Mausoleum. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.
In her early life Jan was a stewardess for Pioneer Airlines where she met and married L.F. Blake. She relocated to Amarillo and chose to be a wife, mom, homemaker, volunteer and was a member of Polk Street United Methodist Church. Her volunteer work included Meals on Wheels and she taught water aerobics to seniors.
She loved her family and friends, large family meals, and serving in her Church. She was an avid reader, quilter, and created beautiful needlework art. Her granddaughters enjoyed cooking and baking with their beloved Nana. She truly made each and every person in her family feel loved and cherished.
The family wishes to acknowledge the wonderful care given to Jan by the Ware Living Center and BSA Hospice both of Amarillo. The family will receive guests at Schooler Funeral Home on Sunday, February 14th from 4 PM until 5PM.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Susan Avery, husband, L. F. Blake and sisters Louise Kamp and Kim Godown.
Her survivors include two sons, Bruce Blake and wife Linda of Amarillo and Kim Blake and wife Lynda of Richardson; 3 granddaughters, Dr. Daisy Martin and husband Karl of Hurst, Dr. Brooke Blake of Galveston and Lauren Plemons and husband Ben of Amarillo and 3 great grandchildren.
The family suggests that memorials be made to Meals on Wheels, 219 West 7th, Amarillo, TX 7901.
