Janetta Shelton, 76 of Amarillo, died Saturday, February 9, 2013.
Memorial Services will be Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. at First Baptist Church Sanctuary with Dr. Howard Batson officiating. Private family interment will be in Groom Cemetery.
Janetta was born March 12, 1936 to B.G. & Dovie Bruce in Wellington. She graduated from Dumas High School with Valedictorian Honors. Janetta earned her Bachelors of Arts degree in 1957 from Texas Tech University. Later, she earned her Master’s Degree from West Texas State University. Upon earning her degrees, Janetta served over 40 years as an English teacher and spent more than 30 of those years at Groom High School. While in Groom, she sponsored the school newspaper and yearbook. She served as a UIL Journalism and Speech coach taking 47 students in 50 events to compete in the UIL state competition, and 9 of those won state titles. Janetta was a past president of Delta Kappa Gamma, a women’s professional educators society. Mrs. Shelton loved music serving as the church pianist for more than 30 years at First Baptist Church Groom. She and Marshall were members of First Baptist Church and its Heritage Club, and she was a member of Amarillo Garden Club. She also served with the Amarillo Christian Women’s Association. Janetta was an avid gardener who enjoyed cooking, traveling, playing bridge, music, and Texas Tech Football.
Janetta was preceded in death by her parents, B.G. and Dovie Bruce, and her husbands, Danny Beilue, Greg Lamb, and Gerald Hudson.
She is survived by her husband, Marshall, a daughter, Andrea Hooten and husband Chris of Bryant, Arkansas, her son, Jon Mark Beilue and wife Sandy of Amarillo, a step son Mike Shelton and wife Irene of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, her sisters, Johnnie Peeples and husband Rex of Amarillo, and Barbara Powell and husband Ted of Amarillo, her brother, Gary Bruce and wife Nancy of Fritch, and her Grandchildren, Blake Beilue, Chad Beilue, Ellie Hooten, Max Hooten, Brendon Shelton, and Danielle Shelton.
