Janie B. Harms passed away June 13, 2012, in Houston, Texas.
Graveside services will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 16 in Llano Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel with Dr. Chester O’Brien officiating. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Friday, June 15, at the funeral home. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia.
Janie was born in Amarillo, Texas but later lived in Springfield, Tennessee, attended Andrew Jackson University in Nashville, Tennessee and then returned to Amarillo, Texas where she met the late Harold G. Harms at “The Nat” during World War II. After marrying, Janie and Harold resided in Brooklyn, New York for several years and then Amarillo, Texas until 2001 when they moved to Houston, Texas to be closer to immediate family.
“Jan” was well known to many in Amarillo for her love of the Lord, her unique ideas about fashion and décor, her ability to turn ordinary things into “objet de art”, her passion for “health food” (several decades before it became “the norm”!), and her penchant to “glorify” (as she would say) in the beauty of what to most were simply everyday surroundings. She truly lived her oft stated cliché . . . “vive la difference”, and will be greatly missed by all.
Janie B. Harms is survived by her son, Greg Harms and his wife, Sandra Harms of Houston, Texas, her grandson Steven Harms of San Francisco, California and Lauren Roth of San Francisco, California, granddaughter Erica Dillard and her husband, Brandon Dillard of Houston, Texas, nephews Bill Butler and his wife Phyllis Butler of Amarillo, Texas and their daughter Alyssa Boyd and her husband Chris Boyd of Dallas, Texas, Page Butler and his wife Annette Butler of Amarillo, Texas and their daughter Sarah Butler of Austin, Texas, Dana Keith and her husband Reggie Keith of Houston, Texas and their children Lauren Van Allen and her husband Russell Van Allen of McKinney, Texas, Christine Bethune and her husband Zach Bethune of Goleta, California, Shelly Keith of Houston, Texas, Gracie Keith of Houston, Texas, and Janie’s special friends in Houston, Helen Smith, Allen Wilson, and Ray-Ray.
