Jerry Neal Bailey, age 86 of Canyon, formally of Amarillo, died December 29, 2014 in Canyon.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, January 2nd at 2:00 PM at Schooler Funeral Home, Brentwood Chapel. J.R. Hammond will be officiating. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery, Canyon, Texas. Military Honors will be provided by Volleys for Veterans. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.
Jerry was born in Canyon, Texas to Edwin and Mary Bailey on July 24, 1928. He attended West Texas State University and was a veteran of the United States Army. Jerry was an educator and started his career at Carver High School, then moved to Palo Duro and finally ending his long career at Caprock High School.
Jerry lost his wife and best friend of fifty three years Mary Lou in 2008. In 1976 the couple adopted their two children Melinda and Donald.
Jerry had been a member of Second Baptist Church; He was a kind man that will be missed by those who knew him.
Jerry will lie in state today at the funeral home from 12:00 PM until 6:00 PM
He was preceded in death by his wife, and three brothers, Lee, Joe and Brent Bailey.
He is survived by his daughter, Melinda Sumner and her husband Brian of Amarillo and his son Donald Bailey and his wife Michele of Canyon; and four grandchildren, Bailey Railsback, Carly Artley, Jesseca Petty and Raymond Kline.
The family suggested memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association 1400 Wallace Blvd, Amarillo, TX 79106.
