He was born in Levelland, Texas on May 1, 1948, the eldest child of Lester Howard Franks, who precedes him in death, and Lillie Ruth Ward of Lubbock, Texas. His loving wife Betsy Franks and daughter Sarah Franks, both of Amarillo, Texas, survive Jerry. He also leaves behind two brothers, Jimmy Franks and wife Ann of Farmington, New Mexico and Jeff Franks of Lubbock Texas; two sisters, Janlynn Dollar and husband Daniel of Midland, Texas and Jeanette Franks and partner Jim Fraser of Lubbock Texas. Additional family include Don Downey and wife Shirley of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Richard Downey and wife Sam of San Diego, California; Susan Pacheco and husband John of El Paso, Texas; Jim Downey and wife Melissa of Conway, Arkansas; Sally Downey and partner Sharon Jacobs of Houston, Texas; Mary Downey of Knoxville, Tennessee; Nancy Ramsey and husband Gary of Amarillo, Texas; Peggy Downey of Temple, Texas; Ginny York of Temple, Texas; life-long friend Dale Cook of Lubbock, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jerry dedicated his life to helping others. He was a loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend. He was always the peacekeeper, the quintessential big brother, the helpful hand, and the shoulder to cry on. He was incredibly caring, a trait he applied to a successful career as a nurse at the VA hospital. To describe Jerry as gentle, loving, and kind would be an understatement. Though he will be missed, he lives on in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
The family suggests donations to the American Heart Association.
