Jerry W. Smith, age 78, formerly of Silverton, passed away from this life and was greeted at the gates of heaven by his beloved wife, Sandra, on July 13, 2023, in Amarillo.
The family will gather to receive friends and share memories of Jerry on Saturday, July 22, 2023, at 10:00 AM at Schooler Funeral Home, Brentwood Chapel. Come hungry as some of Jerry’s favorite breakfast items, such as kolaches and cinnamon rolls, will be shared.
Jerry was born in Memphis, on September 25, 1944, to his parents, Charles and Virginia Smith. He grew up in the Lelia Lake and Clarendon area.
On February 1, 1971, he married the beautiful Sandra Kay Watters, and the life they would share would last the next forty-five years until she died in 2016.
Jerry exhibited an exceptional work ethic throughout his life and retired from the Matador Cattle Company after many years.
Outside of work, Jerry enjoyed working with leather and also operated heavy machinery when the opportunity arose. He was a simple man. He loved his family, his horses and could bake a mean chocolate and 7-up pound cake. If you were lucky, he shared some of his desserts and other culinary creations with you at holiday and family gatherings.
Jerry’s life may have ended before anyone was ready to say goodbye however his legacy will live on in the lives of his family and friends, and that is something to be celebrated.
His parents, his wife Sandra, and a sister Cindy preceded him in death.
Jerry is survived by his son Lige Smith and his wife, Alise; a sister, Cheryl Pickard; and his grandchildren, Lennon Lige Smith and Addison Kaily Pirkle.
The family suggests the memorials be made in Jerry’s memory to the Hope and Healing Place, 1721 S. Tyler, Amarillo, TX 79102, or Amarillo Family Support Services, 2209 SW 7th, Amarillo, TX 79106
