Jerry Starr

November 22, 1946 — February 22, 2019

Jerry Starr, 72 of Amarillo died February 22, 2019.

Jerry proudly served in the United States Navy. He who we know as “Pops” came to Amarillo from Missouri about one year before he met Sheila, whom he would fall in love with and marry in September 2005. He provided for his wife and Sassy, their Pomeranian by working at Amarillo Country Club. Years later, Jerry would move his small family of three to build a new life working for the Wright Family Farm which was Sheila’s mother and fathers. Sheila is Pops soulmate.

Jerry enjoyed spending time with Sheila and Sassy working in the yard and improving their home when they weren’t working on the farm. In September 2012, Jerry lost Sheila. The year following, he and Sassy (who was always with him) moved to Amarillo to be close to the kids and grandkids. Jerry mourned deeply for Sheila and never stopped. Once Jerry was back in Amarillo, he enjoyed fishing and playing pool with his best friend, Fred. He loved fast cars and loved to rebuild and refurbish things. When he was younger, his father took him deep sea fishing. Every Saturday, when Pops would attend family lunches, he was never scared to speak his mind or be an antagonist. He would keep a knife close for his good friend, Steven. Pops was always up for a good joke and to give someone a hard time. He was loyal, honest, kept his word and always showed up on time. These are only a few words to describe him, there are so many more admiral words to describe him. He was a very gracious, loving, and kind human being and will be missed greatly.

He is preceded in death by his wife Sheila Starr; and his beloved pet, Sassy.

Pops is survived by daughter, Christina Morrison of Childress; sons, Eric Morrison and wife Tina of Amarillo and Gary D. Morrison and wife Heather of Amarillo; sisters, Karen Tyner of Northern, California and Gayle Keyte of Southern, California; best friends, Fred and Donna Wright of Amarillo; grandchildren, Rayden Morrison, Allston Garcia, Kaleb Garcia, Azley Morrison, Alexandria Floyd, Hailey Stephens and Austin White; and great-grandchildren, Brantley Morales and Kamdin Stephens.
