Jerry Glynn Stephens 67 died Friday, September 27, 2013. He was born November 2, 1945 in Greenville, Texas. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia.
Jerry loved music all his life and as a young man was a professional drummer. He liked all types of music but rock and roll was his favorite. He performed with many different bands including guest appearances with Loretta Lynn and Jerry Lee Lewis.
Jerry’s adult career was spent in the office machine business. Being raised with sisters, he had a passion for clothes and shoes. When he retired he worked part-time in a women’s shoe store. The ladies loved Jerry’s positive attitude and appreciated all his fashion advice as well.
Jerry accepted Christ as his Savior at a young age and had a deep faith in our Lord. He was a long-time faithful member of First Baptist Church in Amarillo. Recently Jerry was involved in starting a new Sunday School Class with his wife, Mary.
Jerry contracted West Nile Virus Encephalitis and died following a short hospital stay. He would have been deeply touched had he known the overwhelming love and support that was extended to Mary and to himself during that time. Thank you special friends.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Mary, sister, Beverly and brother-in-law, Larry Warren, sister, Carole and brother-in-law, David Cantrell and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Evelyn Stephens, five brothers and one sister.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, 9/30 in First Baptist Church Sanctuary with Dr. Howard Batson officiating.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to First Baptist Church Ministries.
