Jerry E. Webb, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, December 13, 2016 after a seven-year battle with ALS.

Jerry was born September 27, 1944 in Grass Valley, California. His parents were Velma Roberson and William Lester Webb. He graduated from Palo Duro High School in 1963, and was later inducted into the Palo Duro Hall of Fame. At West Texas State University, Jerry was a Sigma Nu and earned both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree. Jerry served in the U.S. Army from 1967-1972. He was a Captain in Vietnam.  After the military, he held numerous jobs at Amarillo College before becoming a partner with Graham Webb Data Print for twenty years.  Jerry then went to work at AT&T for ten years before retiring.

He was past-president of the Amarillo Downtown Kiwanis Club, the Tascosa Excellence Counsel, the Austin Middle School Excellence Counsel, and the Jan Werner Adult Day Care, where he continued serving as a Board Member until his passing.

Jerry’s passion was radio broadcasting. He used to say that he would broadcast anything where two or more people were gathered together and there was a microphone.  He broadcast more than 1,100 games over 40 years as a local sports broadcaster.

Every Christmas season, Jerry was “Santa” to the delight of many friends and family, often times for multiple generations.

Jerry never met a stranger, telling jokes and stories to everyone who crossed his path. Everybody was his “cousin.”

Jerry always had the right words and knew just what to say to those he encountered. He was a great example of how to live life, how to give, how to encourage and how to lift people up in times of need. He continued his inspiring and positive message to the end, encouraging other ALS patients in the Houston Clinic. Jerry leaves a great legacy with his family, and all those who crossed his path.

His parents, and two brothers, Gayle and Donnie Webb, mother and father in Law Gladys and Bob Bailey preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Linda; two sons, Brett Webb and wife Jenni of McKinney, Ben Webb and wife Karen of Lubbock; three grandchildren, Brayden and Ella Maria of Lubbock and Jack of McKinney; aunt Betty Bougher, nieces and nephews Dean Bailey, Carrie Ellis, Leslie Goodrum, Brian Bailey, Kevin Bailey, Rebecca Hobert, Susan Skaggs and Kerry Don Webb, sister in law Evelyn Webb, brothers in law, Jack Bailey and wife Connie, Gary Bailey and wife Georgia, numerous cousins in the Roberson clan and sister in law and chief antagonist, Doris Rutter.
