Jess Dale Ham, 81, of Amarillo died peacefully Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012.
A private family remembrance will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St.
Mr. Ham was born Sept. 3, 1931, in Groom to Calvin Monroe and Ellen Ham. He was a graduate of Amarillo High School.
Dale helped pioneer drag racing along with wife, Glynanna, by being a division director of the National Hot Rod Association. He was inducted into the International Drag Racing Hall of Fame in 1999. He brought NHRA World Finals to Amarillo.
Dale and Glynanna developed Las Tiendas after retirement from NHRA. His NHRA office became a southwestern art studio. Once again, he rose to the occasion and succeeded with art pieces all around the world.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Glynanna, on April 5, 2011; a brother, Dusty Ham; and daughter-in-
law, Priscilla.
Survivors include a daughter, Armanda Ham of Amarillo; two sons, Sid Ham of South Fork, Colo., and Brad Ham and wife Beth of Littleton, Colo.; a sister-in-law, Doris Ham of Houston; and three precious grandchildren, Lenzy, Beckett and Tate.
In lieu of flowers, family suggests memorials be to Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch, P.O. Box 1890, Amarillo, TX 79174.
