Jesse Burl Hobbs

December 11, 1921 — February 24, 2009

Mr. Hobbs as born in O’Brien, Texas to Burt and Joyce Hobbs on December 11, 1921.
He graduated from Regan High School in Wichita Falls and then enlisted to serve in the United States Navy Submarine Service.  He served in the Philippines and Hawaii during WWII.  He married the love of his life, Joyce Goodman in Panhandle on July 3, 1955.
The young couple made Pampa their home for several years before moving to Amarillo in 1961.  It was later that same year that he and Joyce joined First Baptist Church. Jesse retired from Southwestern Public Service in 1986 after a career that spanned thirty eight years.  After retirement, the couple enjoyed traveling together, making many trips to Branson and several trips overseas.  He was a kind and devoted husband and friend, one that will be deeply missed.
Jesse was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Gladys Joyner and a brother, Murl Hobbs.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joyce; five sisters, Lillian Montgomery of Springtown, TX, Bernice Crain, Juanita Spears, Cherry Barrett all of Wichita Falls and Bonnie Dahl and husband Jim of Anchorage, Alaska; his brother, Barney Hobbs of Byers, TX; an aunt Minnie Valencia of Knox City, TX ; a brother-in-law Dee W. Goodman of Panhandle; and by twenty six nieces and nephews
