Jimmy Andrew Martin

Dr. Jimmy A. Martin, Sr., 85, died August 3, 2013 in Amarillo, Texas.

Graveside Services will be held  Wednesday at 10:00 AM at Llano Cemetery with  Mr. Brian
Mashburn of Southwest Church of Christ officiating.  Arrangements are by Schooler
Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.

Dr. Jimmy Andrew Martin was born July 9, 1928 in Scipio, Oklahoma to James Phillip and Arbie Teen (Goodman) Martin.  He attended public schools in Scipio graduating from Indianola Oklahoma High School.

Jimmy joined the Army in 1946 and served in Germany in the Army Security Agency.  He was honorably discharged in 1948.  He attended and graduated from Eastern Oklahoma A&M at Wilburton. He was recalled back into the Army during the Korean War and discharged in 1950.  Upon being discharged from the army the 2nd time, he entered the University of Tulsa graduating with a Doctorate degree in Educational Administration.   In 1951 he married the love of his life and wife of sixty two years, Betty Jane Farris in McAlester, Oklahoma.  They had one daughter, Andrea Leigh Martin and one son, Dr. Jimmy A.  Martin, Jr.

Jimmy was with the Tulsa public schools as a teacher, principal and in research.  In 1967 he began teaching at NSU in Tahlequah, Oklahoma and taught until he retired in 1991.  He was in education for 39 years.  He was an avid reader and golfer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers in law, JD Farris and Buddy Larison; and a nephew Johnny Larison.

Survivors include his wife Betty; daughter,  Andrea L. Martin  of Bemidji, MN; son, Dr. Jimmy A. Martin Jr.,  and wife Kim of Amarillo; three granddaughters, Erin E. Martin Rojas and husband, Aaron, and Megan and Morgan Martin; and great grandchildren, Noah and Ava Rojas; a brother, Joe P. and wife Willie Martin of Sand Springs, OK; sister in law,  Betty Ann Farris of San Antonio; sister in law, Bonnie Larison of McAlester, Oklahoma; Aunt Hazel Martin of Indianola and numerous loving cousins, nieces and nephews.
