Jo Anne Chavez

January 12, 1959 — June 14, 2009

Jo Anne Field Chavez was born January 12, 1959, in Dalhart, TX to James and Jo Field.  She was the fifth child in a six child family.  Her parents farmed areas around Texline and Dalhart.  She graduated from Dalhart High School in 1977 and from Texas Tech University in 1981.
After her days as a Red Raider, she moved to Borger, TX to begin her teaching career.  It was here in Borger where she met her husband, Frank Chavez.  Frank and Jo Anne were married on July 1, 1988 in Amarillo with the Reverend Robert Field presiding.
Jo Anne continued her teaching career at Margaret Wills Elementary teaching fifth grade before moving to Sam Houston Middle School and teaching in the sixth grade Magnet School Program.  Her passion for learning, sense of humor, and teaching excellence toward students and staff was amazing.
Jo Anne loved her family, babies, and her dog, Sox.  She enjoyed holding her many nieces and nephews and being Aunt Joey to each.  She loved getting together with her siblings and telling stories about all their adventures together on the farm. Her greatest love was to be with Frank watching their son, Seve, in all his sporting events.
Jo Anne was a member of St Thomas the Apostle Parish.
She was preceded in death by grandparents Tim and Dessie Field and a grandfather, Pierce Quigley all from Dalhart, TX.
She is survived by her husband Frank and son Seve of Amarillo, her parents James & Jo Field of Amarillo, her grandmother Helen Quigley of Amarillo, a sister Judy Montoya and husband Pete of Amarillo, a brother Mike Field and wife Patti of Amarillo, a brother Rusty Field and wife Gail of Amarillo, a sister Kim Geiger and husband David of Chattanooga, Tennessee, a brother Jon Field and wife Laura of Friona, a brother-in-law Alfred Chavez and wife Patti of League City, TX, a brother-in-law Chris Chavez and wife Rita of Houston, TX, and a brother-in-law Randy Chavez and wife Jalee of Amarillo.  She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, cousins, and a huge extended family and friends. The family suggests memorials be to the Seve Chavez College Fund at any Education Credit Union in Amarillo, Bushland, or Canyon.
