Joan D. Fullerton, 86, of Amarillo died January 2, 2019.
Visitation will be held from 5:30-6:30 p.m., Monday, January 7, 2019 at Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel, 4100 S. Georgia St. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at the Historic First Baptist Church Chapel, 1208 S. Tyler St. Burial will be private. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home.
Joan was born August 20, 1932 in Atlantic City, NJ to Thomas and Grace Dunlap. She attended the Pre-Nursing program at Lasell College in 1952, then Delaware Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1955 as a Registered Nurse. Joan married Jerry E. Fullerton on May 23, 1959 in Wilmington, DE., after a 7 year courtship while Jerry served in the U.S. Air Force.
Joan and Jerry moved to Amarillo in 1959. Jerry took a job at Pantex, and she took a job as the Head ED Nurse at the original Northwest Texas Hospital. Joan later worked for Dr. Maurice Dyer, a Pediatrician and Allergy Specialist when he asked her to join him in his newly established practice. She was his nurse for 24 years, at which time she retired. She was a nurse for over 38 years.
Joan enjoyed ceramics with Jerry for many years. After retiring, she and Jerry spent many years traveling abroad. She was a skilled knitter and needle pointer.
She and Jerry joined First Baptist Church, June 1, 1959, where she was a member until her death. Joan had an unwavering faith in her Lord.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Jerry, of 50 years; her parents; and sister, Robin Kay Dunlap.
Joan is survived by 3 children, Thomas Mark Fullerton and wife Michelle of Amarillo, Laurel Shores and husband Craig of Amarillo; and Drew Fullerton and wife Kathy of Phoenix, AZ; brother, David Dunlap of Palmyra, PA; a close niece, Tara Chase of Ft. Mill, SC; and 3 grandchildren, Brant Shores of Lubbock, Kaylee Shores of Nacogdoches, and Benjamin Fullerton of New York City.
