Joan Hackett, 82, passed away on February 10, 2010 in Amarillo, TX surrounded by her family. Joan was born in Newport, RI and moved to New York City as a young girl. She met the love of her life, FL “Mick” Hackett in Virginia Beach in 1948. They married in 1949 and raised 8 children.Joan was an active member of Christ the King Catholic Church for over 50 years and Moose Lodge 39 in Norfolk. Her life was centered around her family and friends. Her passion was tennis, in which she won many senior tournaments. She was also an avid bridge player. Joan volunteered at the Norfolk Amphibious Base Bargain Shop for over 40 years. Joan was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, Mick Hackett. She leaves her 8 children: Pat Murray and husband Bill of Amarillo, TX: Debbie Jones and husband Craig of Dumfries, VA: John Hackett and Tim Carr of Arlington VA: Terry Taylor and husband Bill of Pineville, LA; Joni Hodges and husband Tony of Tulsa, OK; Kathleen Blanton and husband Rick of Richmond, VA; Jimmy Hackett and wife Peggy of Chesapeake, VA; and Betsy Millhorn and husband Tom of Omaha, NE. Joan is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, sisters-in- law Catherine McGuire of Passaic, NJ and Dorothy Fannin of Fairborn, OH and her many friends.A “Celebration of Joan’s Life” will be held at the Norfolk Moose Lodge 39, 923 Glenrock Rd, Norfolk, VA 23502 on February 15, 2010, from 6-8 PM with a prayer service from 6-6:30 PM. Father Brian Rafferty will officiate at a Mass at Christ the King Catholic Church, 1803 Columbia Ave., Norfolk, VA on February 16th at 11 A.M.
