John Wayne Bond, age 85 of Amarillo, entered into heaven peacefully on February 27, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his loving family
A rosary will be said on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at 6:00 PM at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 4100 S. Coulter. A vigil service will follow at 6:30 PM. The funeral mass will be held on Monday, March 3, 2025, at 10:00 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. The interment will follow at Westlawn Memorial Park in Borger at 2:00 PM.
John was born in Dallas on October 10, 1939, to his parents, Arnold and Ada Ivilla Crittenden Bond. He was a graduate of Borger High School in 1958.
He met the beautiful Mary Kaplan in 1958 and they were married in 1961 in Borger. Together, they nurtured a loving family, welcoming three children: Kelli, Dale, and Angie. Throughout his life, John exemplified the qualities of a hardworking, loving, and devoted family man. He was not only a supportive husband to Mary, but he also embraced the role of best friend, making her feel like a queen. John’s dedication to his family was unwavering, and he cherished every moment spent with them, particularly reveling in the joys of his grandchildren’s activities and events.
John enjoyed a distinguished career in the oil and gas industry, starting with GE Jones Electric in Borger, and spending most of his career with Westinghouse Electric in Borger, Odessa, and Amarillo. He subsequently served as a salesman and branch manager for Cummins Electric and Cain Electric before relocating from Odessa back to Amarillo in 2013.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Virginia and Martha; a brother Frank; and a daughter, Kelli.
John is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Mary; his daughter, Angie Homer and her husband Vince of Amarillo; his son, Dale Bond and his wife Melody of San Antonio; his sister, Nancy Walker of Fritch; five grandchildren, Evan, April, Tess, Austin and Maryclaire; and two great-grandchildren, Magdalene and Matthew.
