JOHN JAMES “JACK” BURNS, age 88 of Amarillo died April 7, 2012 in Amarillo.
ROSARY will be said on Monday, April 9th at 6:30 PM at Schooler Funeral Home, Brentwood Chapel. FUNERAL MASS will be on Tuesday, April 10th at 10:00AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Texline. Celebrant will be Rev. C. John Brasher of Holy Family St. Joseph Catholic Church of Roy, NM. Burial will be in Texline Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia Amarillo, Texas.
Mr. Burns was born in Nara Visa on August 3, 1923 to James and Willie Burns and attended school there. He graduated from Regis College in Denver and served in the infantry from 1943 to 1946. John married Marie Peters on November 22, 1950 in Amarillo. Mr. Burns ran a hardware store in Texline for 40 years. Jack was active in all aspects of the Texline community and was a member of Lions Club, Knights of Columbus, the Serra Club and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He was also awarded the Silver Beaver in Boy Scouting
Jack was preceded in death by his wife Marie Peters Burns.
Survivors include his children Teresa Schwertner and husband Arnold of Amarillo, Nancy Railsback and husband Ron of Amarillo, James Burns and wife Katie of Clovis and their children Mary Cate and Jay. Joe Burns of Texline, Mary Ann Galardi and husband Wade Carter of Atlanta and their son Eric Wright and their grandchildren, Lainey, and Bree Wright, Jane Piercy and husband Scott of Lubbock and their children Spenser and Samantha, Sister Virginia Schwind and husband Joe of Amarillo, Brother Robert Burns and wife Pat of Nara Visa, Brother in law Don Peters and wife Alby of Amarillo, and Sister in law Melba Burns of Santa Fe, NM.
The family suggests memorials be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 302 E Pine
