John William Cloyd, 81, of Amarillo, died Thursday, March 31, 2016.
Funeral Services will be at 2:00 PM Monday, April 4, 2016 at San Jacinto Assembly of God, 400 N. Georgia St. Amarillo, Texas 79106 with Rev. Billy Snider officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia.
John was born on November 26, 1934 in Wann, Oklahoma to Bert and Ruby Cloyd. He graduated in 1953 from Sayre High School, Sayre, Oklahoma. Shortly thereafter on February 2, 1955 John began his service in the Army, where he served until April 30, 1963 when he received an Honorable Discharge at the rank of SP4. On Friday, June 4, 1965 in Sunray, Texas John married the love of his life Glenda Hix.
He owned his own truck for twenty five years before beginning a career with Affiliated Foods Inc. on April 22, 1999 and retired after sixteen years of service. John was a member of San Jacinto Assembly of God in Amarillo, Texas. He was a God fearing man whom enjoyed working outside and was a talented craftsman and woodworker. He will be remembered as a wonderful husband of over 50 years as well as a very good father and grandfather to his three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Marjorie Dirickson, Bettye LeGrand, and Audette Kemp; and two brothers, Donald Cloyd, and Bert Cloyd Jr.
John is survived by his wife Glenda; three brothers, Bob Cloyd and wife June of Alaska, Edward Cloyd and wife Barbara of Elk City, Ok, and Dean Cloyd of Durant, OK; a daughter, Karen Newbill and husband Sammy of Amarillo; a son, Kevin Cloyd and wife Kelley of Union City, OK; three grandkids Kelsey and Kolton Cloyd of Union City, OK, Zackery Newbill of Amarillo, and many nieces and nephews.
The family request all flowers and contributions be made to San Jacinto Assembly of God.
The family would like to express their gratitude for the special care received from the staff of Hospice of the Southwest, especially Gerald Buchanan.
The family will receive friends from 4:00-5:00 PM Sunday, April 3, 2016 at Schooler Funeral Home.
