"Johnny" was born October 4, 1914 in San Antonio, TX to John and Lillian Conway. He
was one of 11 children. He married Cassie Louise Stephenson in Amarillo in 1945. He
served the United States Army from 1943 through 1946. He played professional
baseball with several minor league teams and eventually played with the Cincinnati
Reds until he broke a leg sliding into second base.
He then joined his father-in-law, H. I. Stephenson in the house moving business and
retired from that business in 1990. During their lifetime, he and his wife Cassie, "Babe",
spent free time helping the Girl Scouts in many projects. They also had a business
buying, selling and restoring antique furniture. He retired after the death of his wife in
March of 2000. Johnny was a hard working, self taught man who loved life and people,
and will be remembered with great affection by his daughters and family.
Johnny is survived by two daughters, Jo Baker and Sid Conway of Tulsa, Oklahoma; a
son in law, Art Baker; a sister, Nita Dawson of Corpus Christi; and a grandson, Ben
