John Ray Dowd 65 of Amarillo passed away on Monday, October 15, 2012.
John graduated in 1965 from Vega High School where he ran track. He attended West Texas State University. He became a Master Plumber in 1970 and was the owner and operator of United Plumbing for 37 years and worked there for a total of 43 years. He also owned and operated Tascosa Heating & Air and Amarillo Pools. He loved his work very much. He was a plumber advisor for Mayor Jerry Hodge in the 1980’s.
John was a member of Kiwanis Club South for 20 years. He was also a member of PHCC for 20 years, and was a founding member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents Otto & Pauline Dowd; and a brother, Bill Dowd.
Survivors include his wife, Kristi Duncan Dowd; a son, Brad Devon Dowd; a daughter, Korrie Dowd Dannheim; daughter, Johnna Dowd Flores and husband Eric, all of Amarillo; six grandchildren-Thomas Harold Weise, Timothy William Dannheim, Ryder Moon Flores and Eric Reed Flores of Amarillo; John Duncan Dowd and Avery Grace Dowd of Abilene.
John was loved by his two white Labrador Retrievers; Mr. Buster and Lil Buddy. They were the strength that got him through years of dialysis.
