John Nicholas Kratochvil, 88, of Amarillo died January 2, 2014.
Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 PM, Friday January 3, 2014 in St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM, Saturday, January 4, 2014 in St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church with Rev. John Valdez as celebrant. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.
John was born August 18, 1925 in Jeannette, Pennsylvania to William and Virginia Kratochvil. He entered the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 and served from 1942 to 1946. John married Norma Ziglear on April 27, 1946. John and Norma moved to Amarillo in 1957.
In 1960, he opened his own glass company, Alamo Glass Company in Amarillo, which he owned and operated until he retired in 1990. He also was the owner of Guymon Glass in Guymon, Oklahoma.
He was a lifetime Catholic and a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, including serving as State of Texas Ceremonial Chairman and as a Grand Knight. He was on the Board of Directors of Catholic Family Service for many years. He had a heart for volunteer work and volunteered numerous hours for many organizations and charities.
He was preceded in death by his parents: William and Virginia Kratochvil; brothers, William, Carl, George and Robert Kratochvil; and two sisters-in-law, Mary and Wilma Kratochvil.
John is survived by his wife of 67 years, Norma Kratochvil; a daughter, Sharon M. Bradford and husband, Tim, of Plano, Texas; a son, John F. Kratochvil and wife, Sheryl, of Amarillo, Texas; his grandchildren, Jeremy Bradford and wife, Danielle, of Carrollton, Texas; Julie Dabney and husband, Brandon, of Amarillo; Kristy Kemp and husband, Kyle, of Little Elm, Texas; Mark Nicholas Bradford and wife, Andrea, of Bedford, Texas; and Alyssa Kratochvil of Amarillo; his great-grandchildren: Ava Dabney, twins, Hayden and Hadley Bradford; and triplets, Kayleigh, Makenzie and Drisen Nicholas Kemp; his sisters-in-law, Bertie Kratochvil and Alice Kratochvil; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great-nephews
