Johnny Lee Johnson, 70, of Amarillo was called home to Heaven on February 1, 2015.
Memorial Services will be 11:00 am Friday, February 6, 2015 at Memory Gardens Mausoleum, McCormick Road and the Canyon Expressway. Mr. Charles Yeager of the North Amarillo Church of Christ will officiate. Military honors will be rendered by Volleys for Veterans. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home 4100 S. Georgia St.
Johnny was born in Amarillo on June 30, 1944, to Merton Lee and Jerry Fisher Johnson. He graduated from Palo Duro high school in 1962 and from Amarillo College where he was also a refrigeration instructor. He enlisted in the Navy in 1962, and served as a Sea Bee. He was honorably discharged in 1964. Johnny was a member of the American Legion, Post 344.
On August 12, 1969, he married the love of his life, Jeanne Frances Hyland. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend to all he met. Johnny never met a stranger and was always willing to help a friend in need. He worked to TSTU, the YMCA and the City of Amarillo from where he retired in 2007.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years; his children, a son Danny John son and his wife Lisa of Amarillo, a daughter DeAnna Turner and her husband Brad of Morning Sun, Iowa, and his son Eric Johnson of Amarillo; a sister, Karen Griffin and her husband Rodney also of Amarillo; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
