Johnny Gerald Sappington, 77, of Amarillo, died Friday, November 25, 2011.
Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, in Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel with Don R. Watson of Canyon Primitive Baptist Church officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia Street.
Johnny was born on September 18, 1934, to William and Edna Sappington and grew up in Lake Creek, Oklahoma where he attended school and was a member of the Baptist church. After high school, he worked for Phillips Chemical in Borger, TX, where he was drafted into the army. After he was honorably discharged, he returned to Phillips Chemical in Borger, where he met Willie Mae Sappington. They married on January 24, 1960, and moved to Amarillo, TX, in 1966 where Johnny worked for Pantex and the Department of Energy until his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Edna, his brother, Bob, and his oldest son, Mike Lynn.
He is survived by his wife, Willie Mae, his youngest son, Johnny Mark, and a grandson, Clifford Wesley of Lubbock.
