Memorial services for J. Wayne Kenyon, who went home to be with the Lord on February 17, 2010, will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 20, 2010, at Hillside Christian Church Chapel. Rev. Mike Nuthman and Rev. Roy Wheeler will officiate. Private Family Inurnment will be held at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.Joseph Wayne Kenyon was born November 7, 1928, in Amarillo, Texas. He graduated from Amarillo High school in 1947. He married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Doris Jean Harris, on November 24, 1949. He earned his Associates Degree from Amarillo College and started his radio career in Dalhart, Texas, in 1949. He then moved back to Amarillo and became an announcer known as Kuzin’ Kenyon on KFDA radio. He worked at KGNC radio as an announcer, as well. From 1969 until his retirement in 1982, he was a sales representative with KFDA televisionDuring that time, he earned his Bachelors degree from WTSU. After retiring from radio and television, he returned to school and earned his Real Estate Brokers license and opened Kenyon Realtors. He was a long-time member of the Amarillo Exchange Club. He enjoyed playing golf, was an avid fly-fisherman and loved to travel in his motor home. He and Doris were members of the Good Sam’s Travel Club for many years.Wayne was a kind and gentle soul with a wonderful wit and sense of humor, a true gentleman in every sense of the word. His easy-going manner was an inspiration to all who knew him.He was a previous member of West Amarillo Christian Church and Paramount Terrace Christian Church where he served as an elder and a deacon. He was a current member of Hillside Christian Church and the Fishermen class. He served his Lord and Savior all his life and was welcomed into Heaven with open arms. Well done, good and faithful servant. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Doris J. Kenyon, a son Stephen and wife, Janey of Story, Wyoming, a daughter Karla and husband, Stan Moore of Amarillo, a granddaughter, Malia and husband, Ridge Miller of McKinney, Texas, a grandson, Dylan Greene and wife, Constance of Amarillo, and a great-granddaughter, McKenzie Greene. He is also survived by a sister, Dora Brumfiel of Virginia, a sister-in-law, Marilyn Kenyon of Amarillo, a sister-in-law, Carolyn and husband, Alfred Pickering of North Carolina, two nephews and four nieces. His kids and grandkids agree, he was the world’s best Dad and Poppy. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur S. and Nannie Kenyon and his brother, Paul S. Kenyon, all from Amarillo, Texas.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations made in Wayne’s honor to BSA Hospice or the charity of your choice.
