Josie Catherine Cox, 68, of Amarillo, passed peacefully surrounded by her adoring children on Wednesday, August 16, 2023.
Josie’s life will be celebrated on Friday, August 18, 2023, in the Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel, 4100 S. Georgia, with Pastor Greg Corona of Hillside Christian Church presiding. Interment will follow in Llano Cemetery East.
Josie was born August 8, 1955, in Amarillo, Texas, to Charles Peyton and Norma Jo (Latham) Cox. She was employed in the Thomas E. Creek Veteran’s Hospital of Amarillo lab for many years.
She was a one-of-a-kind force of nature. A shining star that lit the lives of everyone around her. She was fierce before being fierce was popular. She could make everyone -smile and laugh on days that were filled with tears. She was the unwavering matriarch to her children and grandchildren, whom she adored above all else. She was a beacon for those seeking solace from life’s storms.
Today, we must say goodbye to the irreplaceable Josie Catherine Cox. Her favorite quote, one she had taped inside her cabinet door of her home, was, “Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass; it’s about learning to dance in the rain.”
Josie is preceded in death by her parents and brother C. Peyton Cox. Josie leaves behind to cherish her memories her daughter Tera Walker and husband Royce, son Todd Diggs and wife Lacey, six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, as well as her lifelong friend Robert Rodriguez.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation be made in honor of Josie “J.C.” Cox to 24 Hours in the Canyon, 6600 Killgore Dr #100, Amarillo, TX 79106.
