Joy Marie Watson

Joy Marie Willhoite Watson, (Grandjoy), joined the Lord on Saturday, May 30, 2015 surrounded by loved ones.    The viewing will be conducted at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia Street, on Tuesday June 2ndfrom 12:00 PM until 8:00 PM.  The memorial service will be held at Lake Tanglewood community church on Thursday, June 4th at 11am.  The Reverend Rodger Hubbard will officiate.
Grandjoy was born to Charlie Theodore Willhoite and Lenora Small Willhoite on January 15, 1929 in Fort Worth, Texas.  The family moved to Houston in her teenage years, where her father operated Willhoite Ranch House a feed, hardware and nursery.  Grandjoy graduated from San Jacinto High School in Houston.  She then attended Colorado University in Boulder, Colorado, majoring in Interior Design.  Joy was introduced to K Bert Watson while he was providing food service at her sorority.  Love blossomed and they were married on December 29, 1947 in Houston, Texas.
Grandjoy was a loving mother and wife, with a passion for interior design. She went on to design and construct 5 homes, 3 of which she lived in.  She was active as a tennis player and a snow skier for many years, following professional tennis avidly.  In one of her homes she even had her own tennis court.
Joy and K Bert loved to dance, and are now reunited to dance in heaven.  She loved her family dearly leaving behind 5 children: Sandy Watson, Randy and wife Annette Watson, Ken and wife Creta, Delk and wife Michelle and David and wife Janet, 12 grandchildren, and 4 step grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren.
The family would like to express their gratitude for the loving care received from the caregivers as she progressed towards her heavenly reunion.  Joy was a long term member of Lake Tanglewood Community Church.  The family requests that in lieu of flowers any donations be made to the Lake Tanglewood Community Church, 106 Tanglewood Drive Amarillo, Texas 79118; or to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, https://www2.jdrf.org/site/Donation2?df_id=2374&2374.donation=form1
