Joyce Phillips died January 27, 2010, in Amarillo. She was 82. Graveside services will be held February 1st, at Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel at 11:00 A.M. Rev. Alan Williamson, Chaplain of Park Central, will officiate. Dorothy Joyce Kale Phillips was born on December 6, 1927, in Athens, Texas to R.C. and Clydell Kale. She married Lloyd Phillips in Clovis, New Mexico on December 23, 1950. They were married 54 years. Joyce began working for Southwestern Bell in Amarillo at an early age. She proved herself as a dedicated employee resulting in her being named the first woman supervisor in the region. She retired from AT&T after a long and successful career. Joyce was also a dedicated mother and grandmother. She loved her sons and their families and was especially fond of her ten great grandchildren; Judson, Jedd, Jensen, Jenks, Sam, Clay, Reese, Indi, Hannah, and Beau. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lloyd; and her brother, Robert Kale.She is survived by two sons, Rick Phillips and his wife Karen, and Randy Phillips, both of Amarillo; her brother, Bill Kale and wife, Yvonne of Amarillo; her sister, Nell Kennard of Skellytown; her six grandchildren and their families, Kale Phillips, Casey Phillips, and Rachel McKee all of Amarillo, Courtney Kendall of Canadian, Katie Ham of Hampton, Virginia, and Shelby Vinson of Plainview; and her ten great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank Linda Todd for her gentle care of Joyce, these last days. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Sunday, January 31st, from 5:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Downtown Women’s Center, 409 S. Monroe, Amarillo, TX 79101.
