She was born in Percy, Illinois on January 15, 1919. She was raised in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, where she excelled in Math, Literature, English, and Penmanship.
She met the love of her life, Virgil Brecheen, in Memphis, Tennessee at the Greyhound bus station. They fell in love and were married on March 16, 1943 at the Army Air Force Base in Blytheville, Arkansas.
After World War II ended, they moved to Lubbock, Texas. She worked at Methodist Hospital as the head bookkeeper and accountant for several years. She resigned to become a full-time homemaker and to start a family.
Their only son, David, was born in 1955, and she dedicated her life to raising him and caring for her home.
After moving to Amarillo in 1960, Beulah and Virgil joined Trinity Baptist Church and started a new life with their church family. She worked in the Children’s Church where she kept records for the children’s Sunday school departments until just a few years ago.
Beulah enjoyed the art of découpagé for many years and was always in demand for her beautiful writing skills and her knowledge of calligraphy.
She was a devoted and loving Wife, Mother, and Grandmother. She was married to Virgil for 67 ½ years until his death in 2010.
Her last months were marked by physical trials, yet all the people she came in contact with were blessed by her unfailing wit, humor, and her love of the Lord.
She leaves behind her son, David; her daughter-in-law, Bridget; and three grandchildren, Jacob, Chantry, and Courtney; also three great-grandchildren, Sabrine, Alessandra, and Harlen Virgil. She leaves two sisters, Helen Schrum, Rosalee Wedul, and a brother, George Frederick Sieberg.
The family would like to thank and recognize all the wonderful caregivers we had from Richard Bechtol, M.D., BSA Hospital, Bivins Rehab, Childers Respite Care, Compassion Home Health Care, and Hospice of the Southwest, especially Tiffani.
Last but MOST important, the ladies who stayed with and cared for “Miss Beulah” at her home – Judith Williams, Debbie Goodin, and Monika Grosch. You are a part of our family, and we love you. Thank you and God bless you.
