Katherine June Ferguson

March 27, 1934 — December 14, 2016

Katherine (June) Looper Ferguson, passed away on December 14, 2016.

Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 17, 2016 at Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel. Dr. Randy Davis will conduct the service. Burial will follow at Llano Cemetery. After the burial family and friends will gather at Fellowship Hall of Lifeway Fellowship Baptist Church, 3315 Hancock St., where Katherine held the oldest charter membership under the Church’s original name of Olsen Park Baptist. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia.

Katherine was born on March 27, 1934, in Lelia Lake, Texas, near Clarendon. Katherine was one of eleven children born to James Looper and Lettie Hill. She was preceded in death by her parents and all but one of her siblings. Katherine is survived by her husband Charles E. Ferguson of Amarillo, four loving children and their families, Cheryl Carter and Robert Petty of Kerrville, David Ferguson and Mindy Greenwood of Amarillo, Daniel and Su Ferguson of Aiken, SC, Tommi Ferguson and Scott Blackwood of Austin, as well as her sister Mary Crabtree of Amarillo. She had six grandchildren who she helped nurture and sustain, Bonnie Gilmer, Carrie Corbin, Clint Ferguson, Deana Noelle Edwards, Ellie Blackwood and Ava Blackwood. She also loved and cherished her great-grandchildren, Devyn Laughlin, Conner Laughlin, Bailey Chancellor and Jade Edwards.

Naturally inquisitive, Katherine strove to advance herself intellectually. From a very early age she was a voracious reader, making almost-daily trips to the local library for books she would hide under bushes to later read quietly when her chores were complete. She received a degree in Nursing from Northwest Texas Hospital School of Nursing/Amarillo College, working professionally as an LVN beginning in the late 1960s and later as an RN. She was very proud of her professional achievements, hard-earned as she sought balance between family and work. She instilled faith and hope in her family, loving each of us fiercely, never failing to open her heart and her home. She will be dearly missed by the many people whose lives she touched.

The family is very grateful to Katherine’s care team on the 4th Floor of BSA Hospital and to Childers Place/Hospice of the Southwest. Memorial gifts to Childers Place are encouraged.

There will be a visitation from 4:00-5:30 p.m., Friday, December 16, 2016 at the funeral home.
