Kathryn "Charleen" Barnett Weller

Kathryn “Charleen” Barnett Weller, 86 was born April 25, 1934 in Groom, TX to Harris and Ona Barnett. She passed away at her home in Groom on January 1st.

A private funeral mass (family only, masks required) will be Tuesday, January 5th at 10:00 AM at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Groom. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery at 11 AM Tuesday.  All are welcome to attend graveside services, masks required.  Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.

Charleen married the love of her life, Raymond “Buddy” Weller, at their hometown of Groom in 1956. They had three sons, David, Richard and Kenneth. Charleen was a registered nurse, receiving her RN license in 1955 at St. Anthony’s School of Nursing in Amarillo. She served as an RN for 60 plus years at St. Anthony’s Hospital, the Groom Hospital, and nurse for Dr. Keith Black, finishing her career as a home health nurse.  She was known as the best triage nurse.  Until the day she passed, she was helping people diagnose their medical problems.  Charleen was one of the founding members of the Helping Hands Food Pantry in Groom. Through this, she continued her gift of helping others.  She also served with the Good Neighbors Meals on Wheels.  Charleen was an avid, very talented artist; painting Santas was her specialty. She was a faithful member of the local Catholic parish and active in Christian Mothers.

Her survivors include her three sons, David and wife Suzanne of Irving; Richard, and Kenneth and his wife, Lesa all of Groom.  Charleen had eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by many close friends and a community that loved her dearly.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be sent to Mrs. Weller’s favorite charity, Helping Hands Food Pantry, Box 616, Groom, Texas 79039.
