Kathy Sue (Coffey) Mason

Kathy Sue Mason age 67 of Amarillo entered the Gates of Heaven surrounded by her family on Saturday, January 22, 2022.

Public viewing will be Tuesday, January 25th from 12:00 PM until 8:00 PM. The family will receive guests at the funeral home from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM.  The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at First Baptist Church at 10:00 AM.  Dr. Howard Batson will officiate.  Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.  Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home.

Kathy was born in Amarillo to George Henry Sr., and Martha Grace Lackey Coffey on January 27, 1954.  She graduated from Palo Duro High School in 1972.  1972 was a good year for her, as that was the year she married the love of her life, Joe Bob Mason in February 4, their marriage would span over the next 49 years.  Together, Kathy and Joe Bob, would grow up, grow a family and grow stronger with each passing year.

She enjoyed attending car shows with Joe Bob and traveling, actually doing anything together with him was her favorite pastime. However, she did love the beaches of Panama City, Florida; Gulf Port, Mississippi, and the Waikiki Strip in Hawaii. Kathy also had a green thumb, at one time she cared for over twenty four house plants.  She was a caretaker and her garden flourished.  She also loved to bake.  Friends and family would add their names to her list to get her pies and cakes baked for holiday gatherings.  Those really lucky even got homemade donuts!

Kathy can be described as the epitome of the Proverbs 31 Woman, “her children rise up and call her blessed and her husband praises her.” She was everyone’s friend, to her husband and children, she was their best friend.  Her spirit was kind and welcoming and she made each individual feel special in their own way. She will be forever loved and missed.

She is preceded in death by her parents and by a brother, George Henry Coffey Jr.

Kathy is survived by her husband, Joe Bob Mason; her two daughters, Cherry White and her husband James of Springfield, Missouri and Christy Coker and her husband Mark of Amarillo, Texas; by a sister, Martha Jo Hendrick and her husband Charles of Amarillo, Texas; two brothers, Mike Coffey and his wife Mary of Texoma, Oklahoma and Dwayne Coffey of Wichita, Kansas; six grandchildren, Lee White, Tyler White, Hank White, Coran Sigman, Dusti Coker and Denni Coker; and by three great-grandchildren, Callie, James Ryan and Piper.

The family suggests that memorials be made in Kathy’s memory to First Baptist Church, 1208 Tyler, Amarillo, Texas 79101
