Kenneth Ray Conn, 73, of Amarillo, Texas passed away Friday, February 15, 2013 in Amarillo.
Graveside Services will be at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, February 20th at Memory Gardens Cemetery with Bishop David Windsor officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia St.
Mr. Conn was born in 1939 in Vernon, Texas to Ralph and Oleta Conn. Kenneth married Idonna " Donnie" Irving July 1963 in Las Vegas, NV.
His love for his country inspired him to join the United States Navy. In 1957 he joined the Navy reserves while he was still in high school and went into active duty in 1959. During his 23 years a few duty stations he served were: Adak, Alaska Navy Air Station, CINC PAC FLEET, Honolulu, Hawaii, CINC PAC, Honolulu, Hawaii serving under Admiral John S. McCain. NAVAL INVESTIGATIVE SERVICE OFFICE (NISO), Washingon D.C. While there he served in President Nixon's inauguration and DES RON 25, traveling to the South Pacific. Leaving Hawaii in 1976 he was transfered to AFEES in Amarillo, Texas where he retired in 1980. He went to work at Pantex and retired from there in 2001.
The absolute pride and joy of his life were his grandchildren. The wonderful memories he had being with his family helped him through his long illness he endured. In July 2006 Mr. Conn had a lung tranplant which gave him an additional 6 1/2 years to be with his loved ones.
Throughout his life Ken exemplified his work ethics and will always be remembered for his dedication to his work. He was a man of great faith, humor and unconditional love for his family.
Preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Oleta Conn, Brother Larry Conn and Great grandson Matthew Allsup.
The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 5:30 until 7:00 PM.
Survivors include his wife Donnie Conn; two daughters, Debbie Wood and husband Dennis and Tina Perry and husband Donny all of Amarillo. Brother Jimmie Conn and sister-in-law Glenda Conn both from El Paso, TX. Grandchildren; Jeff and Greg Wood from Amarillo, Stephen Austin and wife Niva from Ft. Worth, TX. Christopher Perry and wife Melissa, Jason Perry and Contessa Perry all from Amarillo. Six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
