Kenneth E. Lister, Sr. 90, formerly of Texline, Texas, was welcomed home by his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, November 23, 2016.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 26, 2016 at First Baptist Church of Texline, 402 Market St., Texline, Texas 79087 with Mr. Billy Rammage officiating. Burial will follow in Texline Cemetery, Texline, Texas. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia.
Kenneth Eugene Lister, Sr. was born October 22, 1926 to Robert and Esther Sullivan Lister in Wellington, Texas. He was raised in Shamrock where he met his high school sweetheart, Vera LaVerne Ledbetter. They were married on September 18, 1944. He joined the Army and was trained as a tank destroyer. The war ended before he was slated to go to Europe. Following family tradition, he then became a farmer in Wheeler County where they started their family.
He left the farm to go to work for Skelly Oil Company. This lasted several years before he became an independent business man. He later went back to the farm and began custom harvesting that lasted until retirement.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Vera in 1992; his oldest daughter, Sharon Kaye Youngblood in 2009; his wife, Marcy Duke in 2016; two brothers; and one sister.
Kenneth is survived by his children Kenneth Jr. and wife Linda, Shirley Harold and her husband Harley, Keith, and Steven and wife Kathy, nine grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, and two great great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 pm Friday, November 25, 2016 at the funeral home.
