Kevin Gabel, age 65 of Amarillo died November 26, 2022 in Amarillo surrounded by his family.
The family will receive guests from 6pm until 7 pm Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2022 at 10:00 am in Llano East Cemetery and the memorial service will follow at 11:00 am at Hillside Christian Church Chapel, 6100 South Soncy. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia.
Kevin was born on June 24, 1957 in Amarillo to John and Marion Gabel. He graduated from Tascosa High School in 1975, and married the love of his life, Barbara Batten, in 1977. After completing high school, Kevin spent over 45 years working at Amarillo Plastic Fabricators and High Tech Cabinets fabricating and installing custom cabinets and countertops across the Texas Panhandle. While not working, Kevin loved spending time with his family, loving on his grandkids, visiting Red River, NM, fishing, playing golf and rooting for his Texas Longhorns. Whether it was coaching the girls’ Tee-ball team, leading a group of girls on a campout for Campfire, or becoming Amarillo High Band President, he was an active volunteer. Kevin exemplified Christ’s calling to “Love thy Neighbor as Thyself.”
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Marion and John Gabel; one sister, Joan Gabel; and three brothers, Keith, Gary, and Ken Gabel.
Kevin is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Barbara; his prized dog, Scooter; twin daughters, Elise Taylor and husband Brad, Alison Jacoby and husband Keith both of Amarillo; six grandchildren; Callan and Cade Taylor, and Samantha, Brianne, Matthew, and Caleb Jacoby; one sister, Marcia Liekhus of Amarillo; and three brothers, Dennis Gabel and wife Cindy, Mike Gabel and wife Serena, and Mark Gabel and wife Bonnie all of Amarillo; Paul and Debbie Goodin, in-laws and numerous nieces and nephews that mean the world to him.
The family suggests memorials be made to The American Stroke Association.
