LaJuan Nelson

La Juan Nelson, age 78 of Amarillo died July 14, 2015 in Amarillo.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Friday at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2525 Wimberly Road, Amarillo, Texas.  The Rev. Dr. Clay Brown will officiate. Burial will be at Llano Cemetery.  Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.
La Juan was born in Gould, OK to Bascom and Eunice Patton Farquhar on October 5, 1936.  She attended Amarillo Public School, Witt Business School and Amarillo College.  She married the love of her life, Donald K. Nelson on January 14, 1957. They were the parents of amazing daughters, Julie and Carol.
Raising her children was a priority however La Juan seemed to find the time to devote to her daughters and have a full time career.  She began working at Sears in 1962 as a bookkeeper and moved up the ranks throughout the years.  La Juan was promoted to Operating and Store Management of several Sears’s stores.  She retired in May 1993 after thirty one years of service with the company.
La Juan was a long time member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.  She was devoted and committed to serving the Lord in many different capacities.  She was a member of the Heaven Sent Sunday School Class, Chair and Co-Chair of the Sarah Bowen Circle, the moderator of the Presbyterian Women for two terms and served on the Evangelism Committee. She was awarded the Life Membership of Presbyterian Women and “Woman of Faith” awards and also served as an elder at Westminster.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Donald in 2005 and a sister, Pat Barnes.
La Juan is survived by her two daughters, Julie Peterson of Cibolo, TX and Carol D. McDougall of Lubbock; and five grandchildren, whom she adored, Jennifer, Kris, Colin, McKenzie and Logan; and six great grandchildren.
Visitation will be 7:00 to 8:00 P.M. tonight, Schooler Funeral Home.
The family suggests that memorials be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2525 Wimberly, 79109
