Laura Jean Jenkins

Laura Jean Jenkins, 79, of Amarillo, TX joined her Lord and Savior on May 25, 2021.

Laura’s Celebration of Life Service will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 19, 2021 at Paramount Baptist Church where Laura was a member for over 40 years. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home.

She was born in Vanderburg County, IN to Shirland and Nellie Sisson on November 11, 1941. After moving to Lubbock, TX and living there for years, she then moved in 1970 to Amarillo, TX where she lived the duration of her life.

Laura was preceded in death by her husband, the love of her life, Gorden Ray Jenkins. Laura and Gorden lived across the street from each other as teenagers, and fell in love. They were married for 60 precious years. Also preceding her in death are 5 of her 8 siblings: Nellie Cherry, Billy Sisson, Ricky Sisson, Aaron Sisson and David Sisson.

Those family members left to cherish her memory are Skip Jenkins (wife Nicole), Christie De Otte (husband John), Michael Jenkins (wife Janell), 7 grandchildren, Jennifer Clark, Jamie Milton, Jordan Byrd, Scott Jenkins, Julie Jenkins, Erin De Otte, Lauren De Otte, as well as 5 great grandchildren Tristin Clark, Katelyn Clark, Owen Milton, Alice Milton and Freya Byrd. She is also survived by siblings Dickie Sisson, Gary Sisson and Shirley Christian.

Laura was a devoted wife, mother and “Mamaw”. She loved traveling with her family, and many times camped out in the mountains with all of her children and their families. She and Gorden appreciated the opportunity of traveling around the United States after Gorden retired. Laura had an artistic talent and immensely enjoyed painting and chalk art. She also was a voracious reader and would read any chance that she could get. Mamaw will be lovingly remembered.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Paramount Baptist Church.
