Laura "Jeane" Suiter Morris, 87, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away at the BSA Hospice, on March 7, 2012.
Jeane was known for her strong convictions and passion for life, her desire for fairness and for writing, whether it was her devotional column in The Grant City Times-Tribune, or her opinion columns and letters to the Amarillo Globe News to bring her views to those who would listen.
She loved her church, her God and her family.
Born in Slaton, Texas, on May 31, 1924, Jeane was the sixth child of Acy Hunter and Loretta Jinkins Suiter. Her siblings were Juanita Holmes, Marielle Milhouse, Eileen Woods, Melba Wegerson and Jay Suiter.
Jeane was a 1941 graduate of Lubbock High School in Lubbock, Texas, and was commissioned into the Ministry of Lector through the Integrated Ministry Preparation Program in 1986 at Our Lady of Guadalupe in Amarillo and a member of St. Mary’s Church. Jeane was dedicated to compiling an accurate and thorough genealogical record of her family and that of her husband’s ancestry as a legacy to her children.
She was united in marriage on February 7, 1943, to George Richard (Dick) Morris, and to this union five daughters were born, Catheryne, Sheri, Cary, Claudia and Bridget.
Jeane took special joy and pride in her nine grandchildren: Shannon (Scott Sandel) Serrurier, Amarillo, Brent (Amy Pickens) Serrurier, Amarillo, Jeremy Serrurier, McKinney, Texas, Hanna (Tim) Kerns, Oakland, California, Megan McDaniel, Amarillo, Jessica (Kevin) Mercado, Monrovia, California, Lindsay Ryan, Oakland, Daniel Ryan, Norman, Oklahoma, and Donovan Gibson, Worth, Missouri; her six great-grandchildren: Raiah, Amara and Anabella Mercado, Dexter Kerns, Quinn and Zane Sandel.
Jeane is survived by her five daughters, Catheryne (Donald) Lankford, Amarillo, Sheri (Poindexter Westerfield) Hanson, Eureka Springs, Arkansas, Cary McDaniel, Amarillo, Claudia Ryan, Amarillo and Bridget (Reid) Gibson, Worth, Missouri, her very special nephew, Craig (Nita) Woods, Amarillo, great nephew, Matthew Woods, great niece, Amy (James) Monroe, great great nieces, Anna and Emily Monroe, as well as other nieces, nephews, cousins and an abundance of personal friends.
Jeane was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of fifty-two years, four sisters and her brother.
The family wishes to gratefully acknowledge the loving attention of the staff and volunteers at BSA Hospice of Amarillo.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 10, 2012, at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia, Amarillo, Texas, with the Rev. Keller and the Rev. Phil Lindley officiating. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday, March 9. Interment will be at Llano Cemetery.
