Lawrence "Slim" Whatley

September 27, 1941 — October 2, 2018

Slim born in Clarke County, Alabama but who had been everywhere, passed away peacefully 10/2/2018 after telling his caregivers that he was ready to go shake hands with Jesus and then go to the truck stop and connect with all his old trucking buddies.

Slim had had a most colorful and interesting life as truck driver/ seller, stock broker, junior high math teacher, built his own insurance company, and then as a juvenile police officer.  But he always said his favorite certification was as a truck driver.

An avid fan of trains he bought a "honeymoon cottage" right next to the Union Pacific railroad track in Nara Visa, New Mexico where he spent 8 wonderful years watching and "talking" to the many trains on that track and enjoying the tattoos that they blew for him.

Slim is survived by his wife Nancy, who he affectionly called "Jolene",  niece, Andrea Scott of Watsonville, Ca, nephews, John Nystrom (Tammy) of Peru, Indiana; Ken Nystrom (Jennifer) of
Carson City, Nevada; and Eric Nystrom, of Watsonville, Ca.

As his wife, I would like to express my thanks to his friends of ATHS (since 1977), and JOT for his many days of pleasure in connecting with you and looking at your trucks. He loved every one of you.

At his request he will be cremated and there will be no service.
