Lendal Shadix, age 96 of Amarillo died October 6, 2013.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, October 10, 2013 in Memorial Park Cemetery East Mausoleum with Rev. Tom Shepherd of First Assembly of God Church officiating and Terry Power as Eulogist. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia.
Lendal was born August 16, 1917 in Erick, Oklahoma to Andy and Esther Shadix. He served in the US Army Air Corp during World War II and worked for Santa Fe Railroad for more than 40 years. He was involved in the Amarillo Senior Citizens Association and served as president. He was also a member of Polk Street United Methodist Church for many years. In later years, he began participating in “the coffee drinkers” group and continued until just recently. Lendal was blessed with good health and up until the last few months, he was still mowing his own lawn.
He was preceded in death by his wives; a sister Vada Morrison; and two grandsons, David Shadix of Amarillo and Jeffrey Urbanzyck of New York.
Survivors include a daughter, Lynn Mathers of Jacksonville, North Carolina; two step-daughters, Edwyna Honderich and husband, John of Amarillo, and Michele Newsom and Cheryl Wiseley of Lubbock; two sons, Glenn Shadix and wife Doris of Amarillo and Danny Shadix of California; two step-sons, Terry Power and wife Joan of Desoto, Texas, and Gene Hunter and wife Elizabeth of Georgetown; ten grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
The family would like to send a special “Thank You” to all of the staff who cared for Lendal at Plum Creek Specialty Hospital and Interim Healthcare.
The family suggests memorials be sent to a charity of your choice.
Family visitation will be from 6-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at the funeral home.
