Leon Ray Robinson

November 23, 1931 — May 16, 2012

Leon R. “Robbie” Robinson died Wednesday, May 16, 2012.

Memorial services will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, in Brentwood Chapel at Schooler Funeral Home with Rev. Corky Holland officiating.   Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia.

Robbie was born in Amarillo, Texas to Paul M. Robinson and Etta Sandage Robinson.  He attended school in Amarillo, but joined the Navy before he graduated from Amarillo High School.  He received his High School diploma from Amarillo High School in 2004, his Associate in Applied Science Degree in 1975 from Amarillo College.

He met and married his wife, Leota Vaughn in 1969 and happily took on the responsibility of her three children.

He served 21 years in the Navy, spending two tours in Vietnam as a combat photographer.  Some of his many combat photos are on the Internet through the Vietnam Archives at Texas Tech.  When he retired from the military, he went to work for the U.S. Postal Service and worked for 21 years before retiring again.

Robbie was a Christian and a member of Bell Avenue Christian Church where he taught Jr. High School Boy Sunday School for many years.

He was involved with several organizations.  He has volunteered for BSA Hospice for 18 years, serving for more than 16,000 hours.  He is in the Fleet Reserve Association Branch #252, the American Legion – Hanson Post 54, Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1475, and Texas Federal Retirees.

Robbie is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Paul Robinson.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Leota; daughters Nancy Read and husband, Randy, of Canyon and Dayna Burnett of Austin; a son, Rocky Burnett and wife, Kim, of Pine, Colorado; two grandsons, Casey Read and wife, Suzette of Austin and Zeb Read of Canyon; a granddaughter, Jessica Burnett of Colorado; and his brother, Richard Robinson and wife, Cheryl, of Dangerfield, Texas.

A special thanks to the VA Community Living Center’s staff.  Everyone that helped Robbie was so wonderful and caring.  God bless you all.
