Leonard Zielke, who will always be remembered for his unwavering integrity, grit, and resilience, passed away on November 14, 2023, at the age of 102.
The family will receive guests on Thursday, November 16, 2023, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia. Graveside services will take place at Llano Cemetery, 2500 S. Hayes, in Garden of Tranquility, at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, November 17, 2023.
Leonard was born on August 24, 1921, in Meade, Kansas to Henry & Sarah Zielke. Leonard lived a rich life, overcoming significant historical challenges like the Dust Bowl, and the Great Depression. In later years, he often shared these experiences with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Leonard wholeheartedly dedicated himself to the cattle industry, viewing being a cattleman not as a job but as a way of life. In the 2010’s Leonard’s story found its way into novels and magazines, a testament to his experiences.
Recognized for his straightforward nature and reliability, Leonard was a man of his word, earning the respect of everyone who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Rose Helen Zielke, his daughter, Sharon Zielke, his step-daughter, Lori Collins; three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandson.
