Lester Clay Dewey age 96 of Amarillo died July 6, 2011.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 pm. Saturday July 16, 2011 at St. Stephen United Methodist Church, 4600 S. Western, with grandchildren, Trey Dewey and Joni Thomson Solano officiating. A private family burial was held in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St.
Lester was born Feb 3, 1915, to Oscar and Anna Dewey in Sitka, Ks. He grew up in Buffalo, Ok. In 1942, he hired out for Santa Fe Railroad, and moved his family to Canadian, where he lived until 1954. From 1954 until his death he lived in Amarillo
in their original house.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Elva Dewey.
Lester's family was very important to him, and he cherished the family gatherings and time spent with his family. With his outgoing personality, he was a friend of many and will be missed by those who knew and loved him.
Duplicate Bridge was a passion in his life; he and Elva traveled the US where, for 25 years, he never missed a national bridge tournament. Twice, he was runner up in a national tournament, once in New Orleans and once in San Francisco. He was a Double Diamond Life Master with over 6,000 master points.
The family would like to express a special appreciation to the staff of BSA Hospice for their care and compassion during his final days.
Survivors include his daughter, Nancy Thomson of Amarillo; his son, Jim Dewey and wife Kathy of Amarillo; 7 grandchildren, 18 great children, and 9 great-great grandchildren.
