Linden Allen Baker

September 29, 1922 — January 12, 2011

Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 17, at Westview Christian Church with Minister Ron Kohler and Pastor Jack Weems officiating.  Private graveside services will be held at Memory Gardens Cemetery.  Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.Mr. Baker was born September 29, 1922, in Forgan, Oklahoma to Rufus and Lula Allen Baker.  He served his country in the Army during World War II as a rifle sharpshooter.  After the war, he returned to Shamrock where he was in the auto repair business.  The family moved to Amarillo when he was afforded an opportunity as shop foreman with Hilline Tucking (“ICX”) where he stayed until his retirement.  After retirement, he opened a Gulf Station at I-40 and Nelson Streets, managed the Go Burgers, owned “Pops” Burger and a barbecue restaurant.  He considered himself a “chef of barbecue and burgers.”  Linden loved to tinker and rebuild engines.  He was currently working on converting his home to solar energy.  Mr. Baker was very active in his children’s lives and he loved the Lord.He was preceded in death by two wives, Ruth in 1960 and Eleanor in 2006.; two daughters, Linda Baker and Deanna Sanders; sons Kenneth Smith, Darrell Smith, and Linden Richard Baker; and two brothers, Richard Baker and Bruce Baker.He is survived by daughters June Baker of Garland; Jackie Smith, Sharon Smith, and Keisha Julian and husband, Mark, all of Amarillo; sons, Keith Baker and wife, Kathy of Grand Saline; Jerry Baker and wife, Rowena and Bob Baker and wife, Jeanette of Amarillo; and Gary Smith of Oklahoma City; two sisters, Lucy Izolla Turner of Amarillo and Joyce Ruff of Newark, California; 18 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren.The family will receive visitors at the funeral home from 1-3:00 p.m. on Sunday.
