Lloyd Cameron Monroe, age 87 died January 12, 2013 in Amarillo, Texas.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, January 15th at 10:00 Am at Trinity fellowship Church. The Rev. John Love will officiate. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home.
Lloyd was born in Quanah on July 25, 1925 to Luther and Lena Monroe. Both he and his three brothers enlisted in the United States Army on Pearl Harbor Day. They served during WWII in the South Pacific, all returning home safely.
By trade he was a butcher and worked for several grocery store chains before he retired. He was passionate about gardening and loved sharing that passion and fruits of his labor with his family and friends. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting and fishing, anything in the great outdoors. He also enjoyed music of all types especially gospel music.
The family will receive guests at the funeral home on Monday evening from 5 PM until 6 PM.
He was preceded in death by his wife Peggy in 2002; his sister Naomi Lewis and three brothers, Cloys, Hubert and Artis Monroe.
Survivors include his sons, Cameron Monroe and his wife Patty of Amarillo, Ray Peace and his wife Deborah of Arlington, TX, Gary Peace and his wife Yolanda of Amarillo, and David Peace also of Amarillo; three daughters, Marty Ashpaugh and her husband Perry, Bonnie Flesher and her husband Bob and Trina Dawson all of Amarillo; ten grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials be made to Hospice Care of the Southwest
