Lonnie B. Jones, 82, of Amarillo died Saturday, May 30, 2009.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in The Church of Christ at The Colonies with Dick Marcear officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St.
Lonnie was born Nov. 22, 1926, in Memphis to Richard Sr. and Bertie M. Barton Jones. The family, one sister and two brothers, resided in Turkey and Memphis growing up.
He graduated from Memphis High School in 1944. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1944 and served with the Seabees in the Pacific theater in Guam, New Guinea and the Philippines.
He married Wyvonna Louise Billington on Nov. 20, 1948, at the Second and Deahl Church of Christ in Borger. Lonnie and Wyvonna were both employed by Phillips Petroleum Company in 1947. Lonnie retired with Phillips in 1985 as the superintendent of shipping and blending at the Philtex plant.
Lonnie enjoyed playing sports with his sons, spending summers at their home in Colorado, fishing, and playing golf at any opportunity.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kristi Renee Jones, in December 2008.
Survivors included his wife Wyvonna; two sons, Steven Lynn Jones and wife Evelyn Dian of Allen and Mark Alan Jones and wife Charlotte of Bakersfield, Calif.; a sister, Nancy Petty of Amarillo; two brothers, Richard "Dick" Jones of Amarillo and Billy Ray Jones of Memphis; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials be to High Plains Children's Home of Amarillo, 11461 S. Western St., Amarillo, TX 79118; or The Church of Christ at The Colonies general fund, 4500 Wesley Road, Amarillo, TX 79121.
