Lyle Irby Harman of Amarillo died 10-25-12.
Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, October 29, 2012 at Schooler Funeral Home, Brentwood Chapel with Jeff Messer, Chaplian officiating. Burial at Texhoma Cemetery, Texhoma, Tx. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home.
Lyle was born September 5, 1923 to John Tom Harman and Era Estelle Montgomery in Goodlet, Texas. He moved to Gruver, Texas in 1928 where he attended school and graduated in 1941. He joined the Army of the United States and entered active service May 2, 1943. He trained in the 740th Tank Battalion in Arizona and was shipped overseas to England in 1944. The 740th played an important part in the Battle of the Bulge in Belguim and was a part of the occupation forces in Germany in 1945. He was Honorably Discharged January 27, 1946 at Separation Center Camp Fort Fannin Texas. He graduated from North Texas State University in 1951. He met the love of his life, Floetta Riggins in Gruver, Texas and they were married on May 31, 1952 in Spearman, Texas. Lyle believed in Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior. He also believed that Church attendance was very important and made sure he was in his place every Sunday possible. He started his children on this path very early and saw his children become Christians at early ages. He was a song director in a couple of churches and loved to sing. He loved towing his grandchildren around Texhoma by lawn mower in a trailer and buying treats for them. He loved his friends and after retirement enjoyed being with Keenagers in Texhoma and Hill Toppers in Goodwell and was a member of Amarillo Senior Citizens. He also volunteered in several Hospice organizations in Texhoma, Goodwell, Guymon and Amarillo. On Thursday evening, Jesus came and brought his child home, forever to be with him.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Floetta in June 11, 2009.
He is survived by his three children. Son, Glen and his wife Kendall of Amarillo, 2 daughters, Beth Pearce and husband Steve of Seminole, OK and Nancy Pearson and husband Mike of Balko, OK; 7 grandchildren, Matthew and Ryanne Harman, Isaac and Ella Pearce, Chrissie Ginter and husband Billy, Sarah Poindexter and husband Harold, Joshua Pearson and wife Angel; 8 great-grandchildren, William, Emma and Abigail Ginter, Haylee Ann and Calab Wayne Poindexter, Rebecca, Daniel and Jayden Pearson; sister, June Mosley; nephews, Neil and Truitt.
